Since I was a little boy I was fascinated by the inhibitions that hold us back and how we could shed them. For my senior Bachelor of Fine Arts Thesis I chose to
research, write about, and design an exhibition around fear itself; identifying and overcoming our personal fears. I created a customizable manifesto - a declaration - that anyone could use to stand against their fear. After filling it out, the user is prompted to share their manifesto via instagram, facebook or twitter.
The exhibit was created from sheets of MDF, planks of pine, Plexiglas, vinyl typography, nails, screws, house-paint and putty. It was great to get my hands dirty and get into the physical world for a change, when so much of my time in the BFA was spent staring at a computer screen.
I also created a multi-format companion book as a way of documenting my process and research. It includes the research I did to generate ideas for my exhibition, as well as production notes and thoughts about its design. You can read my full research project here or at the bottom of this page.
